Consistent family involvement is key to helping adopted boys and girls go through a grief and loss process.
Thinking, emotions and behavior are all related; negative thinking patterns often lead us to negative emotions, which lead us to negative behavior. So in order to change behavior, we need to focus on our thinking patterns. Usually, adopted teens act out because they do not have the tools to manage strong emotions surrounding the loss of their birth parents.
Even adopted children who feel positive about their adoption experience, can face a variety of emotions as they become teenagers. They may question their identity and value, suffer from low self-esteem, and experience grief and loss. While some adopted teens are able to work through their feelings on their own or with their friends and family, others need professional help to deal with the range of emotions that arise.

Many adults believe that children with problems are born bad. This is simply not true. In many cases, emotional issues are the underlying reasons behind the troubling behavior of problem children. Specialized boarding schools, such as residential treatment centers, address the emotional issues that lead to the behavioral problems in children. These programs are dedicated to helping troubled teens who are having problems in school, at home and within their own communities. They focus on educating students, while teaching them how to cope with emotional issues surrounding adoption. These therapeutic boarding schools help to unlock the success inside a problem child with quality education and therapeutic options.
